Oh my stars! I can't believe I waited this long to watch Across the Universe. Due mostly to the fact that all of my friends decided at the last minute that they hated musicals ("Except High School Musical, of course!", they all chimed in unison) and that sitting through Across the Universe would have been too gruesome a feat to accomplish, I havent been able to watch it until five minutes ago. I absolutely loved it. The soundtrack was so beautifully fitting -- I'm surprised I loved it so much, especially since the Beatles hold such a special place in my heart. I'm not going to lie, I cried at the end. I am such a sucker for romance.

I'd heard both of those songs before seeing the movie and I absolutely worship both of them. Ear candy!
While on the topic of musicals, I can not believe the number of people in this world that find them hard to sit through. I honestly can't understand why. I ♥ musicals! Here is a list of my favorites:
Grease
Pure and utter genius. I was the only kid in my elementary school that had seen this movie and thus looked like a complete fool walking around with a homemade Pink Ladies jacket. Granted, all of the sexual puns were lost to my far-too-innocent ears, but Grease still proved to be one of my all-time favorites.
Funny Face
Starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire: a mousy book worm meets a charming photographer and gets thrown into a world of materialism and fashion. What's not to love? It's worth watching if only to see Audrey bopping around a club in that scene with the black skinny jeans. What a doll.
Moulin Rouge
Beautiful, heartbreaking, and utterly captivating. Everything from the costumes to the cinematography to the music are amazing! Plus that final scene with the cheering crowd and the stage filled with rose petals never ceases to make me
Singin' In the Rain
I love this movie to bits! It's pure classic movie cuteness, plus Cyd Charisse looks damn hot in her dance number. Also, Gene Kelley is so charming that he's bound to tap dance his way into anyone's heart.
Les Parapluies de Cherbourg
Be still my breaking heart, this movie is so poignant! Take one beautiful and very young Catherine Deneuve, her cute-as-can-be wardrobe, sets as colorful as candy, and a bittersweet romance and you've got Les Parapluies De Cherbourg.
Bugsy Malone
Okay. I lack the necessary verbal skills to properly portray how much I adore this movie. Sadly, I have yet to meet another living soul who has seen it. A few of my many favorite things about this movie include Fat Sam's gang of bumbling idiots who use custard pies instead of Dandy Dan's more practical cream-pie-guns to rid the world of undesirables, a very young, very sultry Jodie Foster playing Tallulah, the glittery and glamorous costumes, the catchy and infectious music, and Bugsy's romance with wannabe singer/actress Blousey Brown, who, along with Clarissa from Clarissa Explains It All, served as one of my fashion icons throughout elementary school.
The Wizard of Oz
My first introduction to the importance of shoes, haha. This story is purely, genuinely timeless.
Mary Poppins
Who wouldn't want Mary Poppins for a nanny? Oh, Julie Andrews, how perfect your voice is.
Velvet Goldmine
Does this count as a musical? It does now. Made way before Jonathon Rhys Meyers became mainstream and unattractively arrogant, this film is completely captivating from the opening credits up until the very last frame. Gorgeous cinematography which, at times, feels like a dream. Yet another musical with an astounding soundtrack and jaw-dropping costumes.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Pure, unadulterated insanity complete with cannibalism, aliens, transvestites, deltoids, voyeuristic intentions, time warps, insanely amazing music, murder, and brilliant characters.
Honorable mentions: Enchanted, The Labyrinth (does this count as a musical?? I have no idea!), The Little Mermaid, Chicago, Pipi Longstocking, The Sound of Music, Bye Bye Birdie.
